Looks Like a Beer. Hidden in Plain Sight.

Looks Like a Beer. Hidden in Plain Sight.

There's a version of non-alc beer that tastes like disappointment.

Too watery. Tastes too bitter. The kind of thing you order once and quietly never order again. For a long time, that was the category. Something you stocked just in case.

That's changed. And Bright-Eyed is part of why.

The brief

When we started working on Bright-Eyed, the brief was simple: brew a beer you'd actually want to drink. Not a beer you'd settle for. A beer you'd reach for in the chilly bin without thinking twice.

The non-alc part came second. Getting it to taste right came first.

How it's built

Bright-Eyed is a Hazy IPA. Tropical and juicy on the nose - pineapple, mango, and citrus doing most of the heavy lifting. It's hazy the way a hazy should be. The bitterness is there, subtle and clean, sitting where you'd expect it in a sessionable IPA.

It finishes light. The kind of finish that makes the next one very easy to justify, which is almost impressive given what's not in it.

It's non-alc. That's almost beside the point.

Why nobody clocks it

Put it in a lineup of Canyon cans and you'd be hard-pressed to pick it's a non-alc. Same size, same look, same feel in your hand. The only thing that gives it away is the small "Non-Alc" on the label - and nobody's reading that closely at a barbecue.

That's by design. We wanted a beer that could live in the same spaces as regular beer. Not off to the side with the sparkling waters. Right there in the chilly bin, hiding in plain sight.

Bright-Eyed is available at liquor stores nationwide and online at canyonbrewingqt.co.nz.
