Nobody Has to Know

Nobody Has to Know

Every year, more people do Dry July. Not because they're quitting drinking - just because a month off sounds pretty good, actually.

The hard part was never the not drinking. It's the Wednesday night at the pub.

The month off, not the personality transplant

Most people doing Dry July aren't quitting drinking. They're just taking a break. Thirty-one days to sleep better, save a bit of money, and quietly prove to themselves that they can do it without making it anyone else's business.

The numbers back that up. Dry July has grown every year since it launched in 2008 - not because New Zealand is going sober, but because more people are realising a month off doesn't have to mean a month out.

The hard part isn't the drinking

It's the explaining.

Wednesday night at the pub. Someone's round. You're holding a lemonade and suddenly everyone's an analyst. "Go on, just one." "Are you doing Dry July?" "Why?"

That's the bit that wears thin, making it a thing.

The can that doesn't say anything

That's exactly why we brewed Bright-Eyed.

A non-alc Hazy IPA that looks like a beer, sits in the chilly bin like a beer, and tastes like one too. Tropical, hazy, non-alc. The kind of can you pull from the fridge and nobody at the table gives a second look.

No conversation to navigate. Just a cold one in your hand and a Wednesday night that goes exactly as it should.

Hidden in plain sight. That's the whole idea.

If you're doing it this year

Good on you. Whether it's for the charity, the sleep, the clarity, or just to see if you can - it's worth it.

And if you want to do it without making it a whole thing, Bright-Eyed is in the fridge at local liquor stores and online at canyonbrewingqt.co.nz.

Nobody has to know. That's kind of the point.
